„Finkenau 31“ on behalf

The Hamburg SAGA Group is one of Germany’s leading housing companies. Between spring 2015 and summer 2016, 104 publicly subsidised apartments (total surface area: approx. 6,750 m²) were built on behalf of GWG Gesellschaft für Wohnen und Bauen mbH in a central location in the district of Uhlenhorst, bordering on South Barmbek, in the framework of the “Finkenau 31” project. Part of the building complex, extending over a length of about 150 m, is used for commercial purposes and there is also an underground garage with space for 31 cars.

Solution

Casings belonging to the MEALUXIT window series, which meet the requirements of EnEV 2016 (German energy-saving regulations), were cast in concrete when making the prefabricated walls for the basement. This made it much easier to install the MEALUXIT window units later on. Thanks to the MEA Click-In system, this step is now child’s play, even if one person is available: simply press in – “click” – that’s all!

HTG, the structural and civil engineering partner, chose MEAVECTOR concrete light wells on account of their exceptional stability and robustness as well as their ability to withstand the high earth pressure in a trench 14 m deep (in the area for the underground garage).

The proximity to the Eilbek Canal, a mere 150 m away, and the fact that the groundwater in Hamburg is less than 2 m below the surface of the topsoil in places, lay behind the decision to use MEA’s AQUA solutions for the deep-set basements.

MEAMULTINORM AQUA GRP light wells with a closed floor and drainage openings were selected for this project along with the MEASTOP PRO backflow prevention unit. MEASTOP PRO is the only backflow prevention unit for light wells to be approved by the DIBt (German Centre of Competence for Construction) in Berlin.

Up to two light well attachments were required to compensate the height between the masonry opening in the basement and the topsoil surface.

Verdict

The MEA Connect system (comprised of a window casing and unit, light well, insulated mounting panel and perimeter masking frame) includes all essential components for installation and operation. The configuration and properties are optimally matched and the components supplied ready to use. Lengthy preparations, expensive improvisation and subsequent reworking could hence be dispensed with, saving valuable time on the construction site.
