Zelhem (NL)

Zelhem (population 11,000), founded in 801, is known as the Green Heart of Achterhoek. Modern settlements have arisen around the old city centre; however, its inhabitants remain conscious of their traditions. For example, the town’s church bells are still sounded every evening. The surrounding countryside is quite varied and the country estate "het Zand” deserves special mention. A walking path known as "Pieterpad” runs right across the town of Zelhem. Because of its close proximity to important raw materials, Zelhem was chosen as the location for MEA's modern polymer concrete factory.

The international activities of the Drainage SBU are managed from Zelhem.
